Stonewall Sports - Richmond is a volunteer-led organization. The Leadership Board is a group of individuals that work hard to provide safe, fun, inclusive, and diverse organized sports, activities, and events for the Richmond LGBTQIA+ community. We are always looking for individuals share their time and talents towards helping expand, grow, and improve the league and our community.

Treasurer & Risk Management Director
Treasurer & Risk Management Director
The Treasurer & Risk Management Director is responsible for overseeing the League’s financial operations, maintaining financial records, and identifying and mitigating risks to the organization. They ensure the League remains financially sustainable while complying with all applicable financial, insurance, and risk management requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Maintain accurate financial records for the League.
- Monitor and manage all League financial accounts and transactions.
- Develop and oversee seasonal and annual budgets.
- Ensure the League maintains appropriate financial controls and accountability practices.
- Provide regular financial updates and recommendations to the Leadership Board.
Registration Fees & Budget Planning
- Review previous season expenses and projected future cash flow.
- Determine and recommend appropriate registration fees for each season.
- Present fee and budget recommendations to the Leadership Board for review, vote, and approval.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure League compliance with all insurance, safety, and risk management policies established by Stonewall Sports, Inc.
- Assess operational, financial, and organizational risks to the League.
- Communicate identified risks and recommended mitigation strategies to the Commissioner and Stonewall Sports, Inc., as appropriate.
- Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures that reduce risk and protect League assets.
Sponsorship Oversight
- Provide oversight and support to the Sponsorship Director in securing sponsorships and collecting donations.
- Assist with financial tracking and reporting related to sponsorship revenue and charitable contributions.
- Serve as acting Sponsorship Director in the event the position becomes vacant until a replacement is appointed.

Commissioner
Commissioner
The Commissioner shall oversee all aspects of the general operations of Stonewall Sports – Richmond (the League) and manage all Leadership Board members. The Commissioner will lead with a community-focused and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) mindset to ensure a fun, inclusive, and safe environment for all League members across sports, events, and activities. They will establish goals and priorities that align with the League’s mission, vision, core values, and strategic plan, and will prepare and distribute an annual report to League members and community partners highlighting the League’s progress and accomplishments.
The Commissioner will represent the League in all matters pertaining to Stonewall Sports, Inc. (SSI) and provide relevant updates to the Leadership Board and League membership. They will ensure that the League’s Bylaws and Code of Conduct remain compliant with all SSI requirements and directives. The Commissioner shall also serve as the League’s official legal representative for contracts, permits, and other legal documents.
The Commissioner will work closely with the Operations Director regarding the expansion and development of sports programming, the Finance Director on financial matters, and the Community Director on community projects and initiatives. They will also provide guidance and support to the Marketing Director and the Administration and Communications Director on matters related to League communications, branding, and public image.
To be eligible to serve as Commissioner, an individual must have held a Leadership position within the League for at least one (1) completed season. A Leadership position is defined as a current or former Leadership Board member, Committee Chair, Club Sports Coordinator, or Team Captain.
The term of the Commissioner is two (2) fiscal years, with the option of one (1) additional year upon approval by three-fourths (3/4) of the Leadership Board, for a maximum of three (3) years of service.
Selection Process:
The Commissioner shall be selected through the following process:
- Applications shall be solicited from any eligible League participant and advertised for a period of no less than thirty (30) days.
- Submitted applications shall be provided to the Voting Membership for review. Voting Members will have the opportunity to provide feedback regarding candidate qualifications and submit questions for candidates through an anonymous form designated by the Leadership Board.
- The Leadership Board shall interview all eligible candidates and conduct a vote of confidence to determine which candidate(s) will advance. No more than three (3) candidates may be selected to advance, and advancement shall require approval by three-fourths (3/4) of the Leadership Board.
- The selected candidate(s) shall be presented to the Voting Membership along with their application responses. Candidates may be given the opportunity to update or supplement their responses following the interview process.
- The candidate(s) shall then advance to the Voting Membership for a vote of approval. A simple majority vote shall be required for selection.
- If the Leadership Board determines that more than one candidate is qualified, it may advance up to three (3) candidates to the Voting Membership. In such cases, the candidate receiving the highest number of votes and a simple majority of the votes cast shall be appointed Commissioner.
Operations Director
Operations Director
The Operations Director is responsible for the logistical planning and execution of all league sports programming, ensuring smooth seasonal operations and events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Scheduling & Division Creation: Set regular season and tournament schedules and create divisions based on team registrations.
- Player Placement: Coordinate the placement of free agents onto teams via draft, social, or random assignment.
- Captain & Umpire Coordination: Coordinate captains' meetings for each season and assist Sport Directors with umpire training and skills clinics.
- Resource Management: Work with Sport Directors to ensure the purchase of necessary league items.
- Information Dissemination: Collaborate with the Marketing Director to ensure accurate and prompt communication about upcoming leagues, activities, and news.
- Commissioner Support: Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Commissioner if the position becomes vacant or the Commissioner is unavailable. May delegate additional responsibilities to Senior Leadership members as needed until a vacant position is filled.
Term & Eligibility:
- Two (2) fiscal years.
- Eligible to serve one (1) additional year, for a maximum of three (3) years of service.

Community Director
Community Director
The Community Director is responsible for building relationships with community organizations and strengthening connections between Stonewall Sports – Richmond and the Richmond LGBTQ+ community. The Community Director serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Subcommittee and works under the guidance of the Commissioner.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Partnerships
- Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations that support the League and the Richmond LGBTQ+ community.
- Identify LGBTQ+ organizations and community partners that may benefit from charitable contributions and League support.
- Represent the League on community roundtables, coalitions, and other collaborative initiatives that promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive community.
Community Engagement & Service
- Encourage League members to give back through fundraising efforts, volunteer opportunities, and community service projects.
- Create opportunities for members to engage with and support the broader Richmond community.
- Help connect League members with resources and organizations that provide support to those in need.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
- Develop and implement strategies focused on the recruitment and retention of League members.
- Ensure all recruitment, retention, and community engagement efforts prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Work to increase accessibility and belonging throughout the League and its programs.
Leadership & Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight to the Special Events Director and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Director.
- Collaborate with other Leadership Board members to support League initiatives and strategic goals.

Sponsorship Director
Sponsorship Director
The Sponsorship Director shall be responsible for seeking out and recruiting new sponsors for the Stonewall Sports – Richmond league. They will also work to cultivate relationships with current sponsors for their continued engagement.
The Sponsorship Director will work with the Treasurer to set sponsorship levels and work with the other board members to ensure sponsor companies are being supported. The Sponsorship Director will work under the guidance of the Treasurer.
Administration & Communications Director
Administration & Communications Director
The Administration & Communications Director is responsible for communication to the league and administration tasks. They will handle all internal communication, such as emails and some social media posts, to league members about upcoming or current sports, activities, events, volunteer opportunities, and reminders.
They are responsible for replying to general inquiries sent to the League’s main email and social media. They will also be responsible for administration tasks, such as keeping board minutes, organizing and updating board information, and approving posts submitted to the League’s private Facebook group.
They will work in collaboration with the Marketing Director on creating social media posts and other informational and promotional materials. The Admin & Comms Director will work under the guidance of the Commissioner and will work with other Leadership Board members as needed.
The term of the Admin and Comms Director is one (1) fiscal year, with an optional one (1) additional term added by a unanimous vote of the Senior Leadership members for a total of two (2) years of service.
DEI Director
DEI Director
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Director will chair the Stonewall Sports – RVA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) and execute programs that align with the Stonewall Sports mission. They will serve as Richmond’s representative to the Stonewall Sports National DEI Committee and work to implement national objectives within RVA. They will also promote the league to diverse communities and help advance equity and inclusion throughout the organization.
The DEI Director will work under the guidance of the Community Director and collaborate with other Leadership Board members as needed.
The term of the DEI Director is one (1) fiscal year, with the option for one (1) additional term upon a unanimous vote of the Senior Leadership members, for a maximum of two (2) years of service.
Special Events Director
Special Events Director
The Special Events Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing League events and activities throughout the year. They work to create engaging, inclusive, and safe experiences for League members and the broader community while supporting the League’s mission and values.
The Special Events Director works under the guidance of the Community Director and collaborates with other Leadership Board members as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Planning & Coordination
- Plan, coordinate, and execute special events and League activities throughout all seasons.
- Manage event logistics, timelines, and operational needs to ensure successful event execution.
- Support the planning and delivery of annual programs and League traditions.
Vendor & Venue Relations
- Serve as the League’s primary representative when working with event vendors, venues, and service providers.
- Coordinate communications and logistics with vendors and venues before, during, and after League events.
Community Engagement
- Create events that foster community connection, member engagement, and League participation.
- Coordinate a variety of League events, including but not limited to:
- Pre-season kickoff events
- Seasonal fundraising events
- Social gatherings and member mixers
- Post-season awards celebrations
- Annual League programs and special events
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
- Ensure all events are planned and executed with a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) mindset.
- Promote environments that are welcoming, accessible, inclusive, and safe for all League members and community participants.
Mx Congeniality
- May oversee the planning and coordination of the Mx Congeniality program.
- Ensure teams are provided ample and equitable opportunities to participate and compete for the title.

Marketing Director
Marketing Director
The Marketing Director is responsible for the development of league content and creating a structured marketing strategy for all official Stonewall Sports-Richmond social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook pages, and the league lnstagram account.
The Marketing Director is also responsible for ensuring the brand of Stonewall Sports - Richmond is consistent throughout our media footprint. The Marketing Director will handle all branding, website design and updates (excluding technical content maintained by Sport Directors), field/event marketing, recruitment of new players, and advertisements. They will be the liaison to any third party marketing vendors (e.g. photographers) and handle internal photo/video for the League. The Marketing Director will work under the guidance of the League Commissioner.
The term of the Marketing Director is one (1) fiscal year with an optional one (1) additional term added by a unanimous vote of the senior leadership members for a total of two (2) years of service.
Wellness Director
Wellness Director
The Wellness Director is a 1-year position on the Leadership Board. The Wellness Activity Director works under the Operations Director.
The Wellness Activity Director is responsible for the planning, execution, and operations of all adventure and yoga activities. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Ordering and managing equipment
- Coordinating event set-up
- Updating and maintaining participant registrations
- Identifying and scheduling yoga instructors
- Publishing league-specific rules prior to each season
In addition, the Wellness Activity Director will help manage the Club Sports Facebook group. This role reports directly to the Operations Director and works closely with both the Club Sports Director and the Operations Director to assess and balance workload.
Sports Directors
Sports Directors
Sports Directors are responsible for all planning, execution, and operations of sport leagues and tournaments taking place during all seasons. They may oversee various sports at the discretion of the Leadership Board.
Our board has five sports director positions: Kickball Director, Bowling Director, Volleyball Director, Dodgeball Director, and Pickleball & Tennis Director.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- equipment orders
- competitive event set-up
- collecting scores and tracking rankings/standings
- updating, and maintaining registrations
- identifying, training, and scheduling umpires and referees
- and publishing sport-specific rules prior to each season.
The Sport Directors will report to the Operations Director. The terms of the Sport Directors are one (1) fiscal year with an optional one (1) additional term added by a unanimous vote of the senior leadership members for a total of two (2) years of service.
