Stonewall tennis encourages players at all levels to participate.

This season will feature an 7-week challenge ladder for Singles Tennis. There will be designated court dates and meet-up dates to encourage community and less competitive game play.

The Singles Challenge ladder will begin on September 17th and run through November 14th. Upon conclusion of the 7-week singles challenge ladder, a tournament in team format will be played on November 15th, featuring a randomized draw by team level.

8 week challenge ladder followed by an end of season tournament on 11/15!
Regular meet-ups every Wednesday evening starting 9/17 through 11/12 at Byrd Park to work on skills and technique
Weekend meet-ups every other Saturday morning at Battery Park on 9/20, 10/4, 10/18, and 11/1
$40 registration cost

Social Hour - Each Wednesday, following the meet-ups, there will be a designated location for club members to gather. More information and locations will be available after registration.

Singles Tennis

Court Days and Tennis Instructor - Official Tennis Club court time will be held on these dates:
- Every Wednesday, April 23rd through June 18th, at Byrd Park from 6:15pm to 7:45pm
- Every OTHER Saturday (May 3rd, May 17th, May 31st, and June 14th) at Battery Park from 11:00am to 1:00pm
- There will be 3 group sessions scheduled with a Tennis Instructor during this period (dates are TBA)

Challenge Ladder - The challenge ladder will consist of singles competition among participants. Players may challenge up on the ladder two spots but may only challenge down 1 spot. Players will have the option to choose between a best 2 out of 3 set, with 10-point tiebreaker, or an 8-game pro-set, understanding that scheduling can be difficult.
- The Challenge ladder will run Monday April 23rd through Friday June 20th. Matches will be held at the challenging players discretion for location and time and reporting score to a member of the tennis committee.
- If a player is inactive for two weeks (10 days) for reasons other than an excused trip or injury, they will automatically drop a position on the challenge ladder. Every subsequent week shall be an additional position. Players who drop on the challenge ladder for attendance purposes, may still be ranked at a higher level for the team format tournament at the discretion of the club committee. (ie-Players may not rig rankings going into the tournament.)

Team Format Tournament - On Saturday, June 21st from 10AM-4PM (inclement weather make-up June 22nd or 28th) the club committee will host a team format tournament at Byrd Park. At the conclusion of challenge ladder play, players who have registered for the tournament will be grouped into levels of play. While each team will be drawn at random, the intent is for each team to have equal representation among levels of play. Each player will have one singles match in the team format tournament. These are head-to-head matches, not bracket play.

INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS

INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS

Everyone who registers will be asked to rate their individual skill level on a scale from 1-6.

Beginner. Little to no experience. Still working on getting the ball into play. (USTA level 1.5)
Limited experience. Player struggles to make consistent contact on stroke and is not yet familiar with basic positions on the court. (USTA level 2.0)
Learning to judge where ball is going and how much swing is needed to return it consistently. Can sustain a backcourt rally of slow pace with other players of similar ability and is beginning to develop forehand and backhand. (USTA level 2.5)
Fairly consistent hitting medium-paced shots, but not comfortable with all strokes. Lacks directional control and overall accuracy. Limited comfort at the net. Inconsistent ability to serve. (USTA level 3.0)
Dependable shots with directional control on moderate shots, but still inconsistent on hitting with depth. Reliably serves in with low to moderate pace. Limited use of lobs, overheads, approach shots, and volleys. More comfortable at the net. (USTA level 3.5)
Dependable strokes with directional control and the ability to hit with on forehand and backhand. Ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots, and volleys with success. Serves with pace and directional control and forces errors when serving. (USTA level 4.0+)

Doubles Tennis

Doubles Tennis is not offered for Fall 2025

Court Days and Tennis Instructor - Official Tennis Club court time will be held on these dates:
- Every Wednesday, February 26th through April 16th, at Byrd Park from 6:15pm to 7:45pm
- Every OTHER Saturday (March 1st, March 15th, March 29th, and April 12th) at Battery Park from 11:00am to 1:00pm
- There will be 3 group sessions scheduled with a Tennis Instructor during this period (dates are TBA)

Challenge Ladder - The challenge ladder will consist of Doubles competition among participants. Players may challenge up on the ladder two spots but may only challenge down 1 spot.
